Medicare associates are warning members about a number of scams which are being used regarding the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan. Senior citizens have been contacted by people posing as Medicare representatives, and these individuals will request personal information. Unfortunately, many senior citizens have become victims of these scams. Those who have Medicare have been warned to avoid people who claim to be offering Medicare products.
To deal with these scams, agreements have been established with a number or organizations which can investigate these crimes. The name of these organizations is MEDICS. Though these organizations were formed to protect those with Medicare, there are a number of things you can do to avoid becoming a victim of these scams. One thing you can do is avoid doing business with people who solicit you at home. No representative of Medicare is authorized to sell products door-to-door.
It is also important to never reveal your personal information to anyone. No authorized company who sells Medicare drug policies should ever ask for your personal information under any circumstances. Keep your Medicare number safe at all times. It can be likened to your credit card number, and should never be disclosed to anyone. Before you sign an agreement, make sure the individual soliciting you is authorized. Medicare has a list of companies which are authorized to sell products. If the sales representative tries to rush you, get away from them as soon as possible.
If you feel that you have become the victim of a scam, call the police immediately. Another organization which can assist you is the Health Human Services Office. If you are a senior citizen, you are greatly at risk. Many criminals know that a large number of seniors use Medicare, and target them for these types of scams. While these scams are directed at seniors, anyone using Medicare can become a victim. |
